pc problem

can anyone please tell me how to fix this problem.
I have a computer that has winxp on it, and some time it reboot by itself while I am surfing the web or working on any other application.
now I want to install linux mandrake on it, but I hope to get the problem fix.
I don't know it that has to do with the power management or the bios.

Textbook Definition:
An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is a device that allows your computer to keep running for at least a short time when the primary power source is lost or interrupted. It also provides protection from power surges. A UPS contains a battery that "kicks in" when the device senses a loss or interruption of power from the primary source. When power surges occur, a UPS intercepts the surge so that it doesn't damage your computer.

Nutshell Definition:
Basically a UPS is a surge protector with a battery in it that provides your computer with a consistant source of power and protects it from power line surges.
