Partitioning first?

Do you need to partition the HD before installing linux?

Just asking due to no matter if I use an old linux that I have or if I download and burn one I can not get my PC to boot it.

I tell it to manually boot from CD, and have tested the drive with windows CD and that booted fine so I know it is not the drive.

Something is wrong with the burned CD, as the partitioning can be done during the installation, and if one CD boots they should all boot.

No.

Did you create a "disk image" or copy an .iso file to the cd. The latter will never never work.
