Unhappy partions


hai.

In my 20GB HDD i loaded winXp & in remaining only in 5GB
I need to install RedHat Linux 9
For that I m facing problem that I don't know what is the exact partation should make for different directories like /,dev.etc,bin ..etc


pl tell me what should be the size or min ration for installing linux9

thanks in advance

5gb doesn't give much play, so keep the partitions to a minimum.

/boot = 50mb
swap = 250mb
/ = rest

if you had more space, you'd benefit from a /home for all personal user data, and then maybe a /usr after that. Don't worry about them if you've only got that little space.

But what about when i select rmp (applications) such KDE,... Open office

i don,t know where these applications stores it all in /(root) partations only
when i select some applications it gives me not available disk space
so what minimum space need to install including minium applications selected in RedHat Linux9
