Here's the output from my FC5 box after insatalling newt-devel and a couple of other packages...

$ locate libnewt
/usr/lib/libnewt.a
/usr/lib/libnewt.so
/usr/lib/libnewt.so.0.52
/usr/lib/libnewt.so.0.52.1

I used the smart package manager...
Code:

smart install newt-devel bzip2-devel openssl-devel
Fedora boxes, I seem to have better luck using --disable-ssl
Code:

./configure --disable-ssl
If you can't get it going, might be easier to grab the partimage rpm from http://drbl.sourceforge.net/drbl-core

hi

i did this:

yum -y install newt-devel bzip2-devel openssl-devel

that seemed to install
I then try to ./configure
and also tryed your cmd

this is the last bit of code it shows, i dont think it is installed?

bin/sh ./mkinstalldirs /usr/local/info

If there where no errors, then you finish with two more commands...
Code:

./configure --disable-ssl
make
make install

lizard_king825 08-26-2006 04:13 PM

ok i did them cmds.

here is what the last of the code shows:

/bin/sh ./mkinstalldirs /usr/local/info
/usr/bin/install -c -p -m 644 AUTHORS /usr/local/info/AUTHORS
/usr/bin/install -c -p -m 644 BUGS /usr/local/info/BUGS

Partimage is not designed to back up a system that is in use. If you want to backup the FC5 system, you should boot to a livecd like pclinux or boot into another Linux system and run partimage from there. You need to unmount any Linux systems before using partimage to save that system. Do that with the umount command.

If you want to make a backup of FC5 while it is running, I use cpio for that.

I have another partition which I save my backups to.

For example:

My FC5 box is located on /dev/sdb2 and I want to save the backup image to the backup folder located on /dev/sdb1.

As root user, I make a folder called /mnt/backup.
Code:

mkdir /mnt/backup
Then, I mount that folders
Code:

mount /dev/sb1 /mnt/backup
Now, I save the FC5 system to a compressed image in the /mnt/backup folder.
Code:

(cd / ; find . -xdev | cpio -voc > /mnt/backup/linux.cpio.gz)
Note: To restore that image, you will need to boot up with a livecd or other Linux system.
While in that other Linux system, don't forget to unmount the Linux system that you want to backup. Also, I format that partiton before doing the restore.
For example:
Code:

mkdir /mnt/mudd
mkdir /mnt/backup
mount /dev/sdb2 /mnt/mudd
mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/backup
(cd /mnt/mudd ; cpio -vicdm < /mnt/backup/linux.cpio.gz)
