out of the blue freezing when loading FC4 kernel with grub
Hi (first post!)
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, i couldn't see where else it should go.
I've had Fedora Core 4 installed for a few months now, but yesterday, out of the blue, it began freezing when loading up.
the computer starts ok, it goes into grub, fc4 is selected (haven't got any other kernels set up), and instead of scrolling off with loads of print outs like it normally does, it simply displays the following and doesn't do anything else:
Booting 'Fedora Core (2.6.11-1.1369_FC4)'
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
/vmlinuz-2.6.11-1.1369_FC4 ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet
I haven't changed any hardware. i had previously changed the cpu clock speed (while using windows) and the bios reset itself for some reason so i have tried to set all the settings back to normal. i have also tried fiddling about with bios settings and it hasn't made a difference.
when i used the fedora core 4 cd to get into restore mode, i could get into the system as root ok, but i don't really know what to check to see whats going on.
My computer is:
amd athlon 2500 on an nForce2 motherboard
1 x 512mb twinmos ram
20gb (posibly dodgy) hd (for linux only)
all help + suggestions kindly apreciated
more info available on request (i've probably forgotton something important!)
Thanks in advance
