OSX's Mission Control in a Linux Desktop.

Hi,

I know GNOME 3 has a very similar feature to Mission Control. I do very much like the ability to look at and manage the windows and desktops all together. It makes everything very easy. However, GNOME 3 has a big issue (for me anyway). The desktops are lined up vertically. I want them to be lined up horizontally, otherwise it's very confusing moving between OSX and Linux. Horizontally seems like a more natural choice anyway.

Is there any way I can replicate the functionality of Mission Control in Linux, including keeping the desktop orientation horizontal?

Otherwise I'll use Expo which is the closest thing.

Thanks,

Matthew

Actually if you look at the timeline of releases, it is Lion that borrowed the concept of Mission Control from Gnome3. :-) In fact the interface of Lion changed quite a few things to look more Gnome-ish (square-r buttons, resizeable windows from all edges, etc), which really surprised me.

That said, check out this Gnome extension:

Hope that helps!

Yes it does, at least as far as I recall. But OP was definitely talking about gnome3, so I don't think OP would want to either revert to gnome-2 or classic mode in gnome3 since both options would lose that "dashboard" thing that happens when you hit the Super key (that dashboard thing is what OS X calls mission control, more or less)

Thanks. I don't know who created it first or if anyone copied anyone else, but from my experience with using OSX I do like Mission Control very much. The GNOME extension wouldn't be too good unless the desktops stretched horizontally across the screen instead of taking up the right side, otherwise there is not much room for horizontal desktops to be displayed properly. I think I'd be better off using Cinnamon's Expo. Also Cinnamon seems like the best overall choice of desktop for me.

I would think about creating my own Cinnamon applet but I think it would be too difficult. Perhaps I could get Scale and Expo to work at once (bringing Expo up to the top) but then being able to drag windows into other desktops would be more complicated to figure out.
