Oracle in Linux

Hi,

I have an Oracle database running in one of my servers in the Datacenter.

I need to backup it, and recreate the db in another server. This needs to be done occasionally. The database is in Redhat EL3 and Oracle9.

Could anyone help me to do this.

Hmmm ,,
Backing up restoring oracle is a it tedious and painfull process..but i can give you an outline.
1.Perform an rman backup to disk either cold or hot backup of the production DB
2.Install oracle on the second machine without creating databse with same file
system structure
3.Create an instance with same name as that of production
4.perform a restore using rman by copiying over the files to duplicate server
or as an alternative you can use some third party backup software to peform the same
but the basic steps mentioned abive remains the same
