Question Oracle 10g Express Edition on Linux

Hello,

I'd like to install Oracle Database 10g Express Edition for Linux on my PC. Have anybody tried it? Which FREE Linux distribution works best?

Thanks,
vix

Hi, and welcome to LQ!

Define "works best". Oracle will happily (almost a no-brainer) install on
RedHat AS/ES, SuSE and Turbo Linux (those are what Oracle is certified against).

With effort you can get it to play with other distros, none of them will
be a no-brainer.

Cheers,
Tink

Fedora is a branch off of the supported RedHat.
Fedora 4 Core should be good.
I have never installed Express Edition, but the full Enterprise install was pretty painless

10G is so much easier than older versions -- memories of 8.1.7 -- ouch

Tinkster,
Thanks I wasn't specific enough... what i meant was aside from the distros that Oracle is in partner with and works best - no installation problem

Alar,
Thanks also, I'll try that. Previous full 9i Enterprise install on RH7.2 wasn't a success I'm a newbie both in Linux and Oracle

Thanks again to both of you.
