Opera problem

I have a problem with my internet connection.
I use Opera as a browser and it works mush slower than in Windows XP. I have been told that is the firewall. If the firewall is the problem how do I deactivate it?
What can I do to make the internet load as fast as with IE?

Thanks!

I'm not sure that deactivating your firewall is the answer - modify it YES! Deactivate NO! IE loads so fast because it's already loaded - you're just opening it up. It sits there using your system resources until you need it. Which distro are you using?

Which Opera version do you have and are you using the latest XFree + the latest drivers for your card?

After downloading 7.21....
File Preferences > Windows. go to loading on the right and choose redraw instantly.

if you're using broadband, try this too.
File Preferences > Network. max server connections up it higher than the default to something like 16 and max total connections to something like 32. if synchronous dns is checked, uncheck it.

I am using Linux RedHat 9.0 with 2.4.20 kernel and Opera 7.11.
Opera loads fast but when I want to connect to a site (for example www.yahoo.com) it takes much more time than IE.
Another problem could be the modem driver. I don't know the model of my modem, just that it is WiseCom so the driver is Generic Modem but someone told me that there is no problem with the driver because he uses Generic Modem as web pages are loaded as fast as in IE.

Thanks!
