openSUSE 11 fails to launch programs

Sorry if wrong forum...wasn't sure as it is software.

Recently installed openSUSE 11 on a server without problems and have been using it without problems. Recently though (last couple of days) software seems to be failing to launch.

I can open YAST and the terminal and file manager etc...but third party software such as Firefox and MYSQL Administrator simply 'bounces' and then disappears.

Is there anywhere I should be looking for logs etc to see whats going on as basically at the moment its kind of a useless box if I cannot get into anything.

To get further information, try opening one of the problematic programs, like firefox, in the terminal, and then post the reading from the terminal.
