OpenOffice Woes

Hi,

I'm running Mandrake 9.1 and I'm having a little trouble with OpenOffice. When I open it I get the splash screen and the windowbox on the taskbar, but nothing happens. The timer in the window box evenutally gives up and the box vanishes. Has anyone else had similar trouble?

all the time. I finally switched to using the tarball install from openoffice.org and that has no problems. you also get the newest version.

you can start openoffice from a terminal and see if you get any error messages. The command is
oowriter

Hi again,

I tried it from the terminal and got the follwing error message:

Application ErrorAborted

I suppose it's beyond repair then?

Unfortunately I am only on a 56k connection so downloading OpenOffice again is out of the question/

that is about the least informative error messages imaginable.

you could try removing or renaming the ~/.openoffice directory. Also, you could remove it and then reinstall it.
