OpenOffice: want to edit TOC and footing: numbering
I have a .doc file. The Table on Contents has Roman Numerals as well as the footing. The Table of Contents is linked to the pages and headings.
How do I change these to a different numbering system: 1,2,3,? The format is A4 and I want to convert it to letter. Can I do this and keep the links in the TOC to the pages and headings? Thanks |
To change the page format to letter from A4, click Format, select Page from the drop-down menu, and then select the Page tab and select "Letter". In short: Format, Page, Letter. The links should still be fine.
The default for OOo Table of Contents is to have regular numerals (aka Hindu-Arabic numerals) as page numbers, and simple bullets by the headings. If when it was created the option of "Alphabetic Index" was selected, then rather than bullets there will be Roman Numerals by the headings. If that's the case, you could right-click it, select select Numberbing/Bullets, and change it this way. If the listed page numbers are in Roman Numerals, then I'm not sure how to change this. You could right click it, and choose Edit Index/Table, and then uncheck the "Protect against Manual Changes" in the Index/Table tab, and then manually change this. Or, you could simply create a new one, and, if successful, delete the old one (as I mentioned, Hindu-Arabic numerals is the default for page number listings with bullets, not Roman Numerals, beside the listed headings). It only takes a minute to create a new one. From the OOo help: Quote:

I found a solution. I spent some time with the document and found I could change the page numbers in the Table of Contents through page format: Format -> Page. In the Layout Settings I chose the Format 1,2,3 instead of i,ii,iii. For the page numbers in the footer I place the cursor to the left of the number and right clicked and selected fields and chose Arabic.
