OpenOffice question

If I have OpenOffice installed in my WinXP partition, would I be able to access and use it from my Linux installation?

Thanks

No.

You need to get the Linux version.

Windows and Linux binaries are not compatable.

Not to mention that Linux cant write to NTFS partitions.

No. OpenOffice on WinXP is compiled to use Windows subroutines for I/O, malloc, etc. It would crap out on Linux in a heartbeat.

You might be able to get WinXP Open Office to work on WINE running on Linux but it would be far easier to get Linux native Open Office working than WINE.

You could install Open Office on Linux and then share the Open Office data filles. To do this set up a FAT32 partition and put the Open Office data files (and perhaps the Open Office executables) on the FAT32 partition. Both Linux and WinXP can read/write to FAT32.
