openoffice.org can't use text database in calc or base

Hi, I have a Comma delimited text file in the format

"data1","data2","data3","data4",etc,etc

In oocalc When I do insert/link to external data and select the file, and select comma delimited. I click ok then it returns me to the file selection box but "ok" os not selected so I can't use the database. I tried in version 1.1 and also 2.0 beta. It does it in both. What am I doing wrong?

I also tried doing it in the Base application I can get the database but it gives me one row for all the data even though I selected csv and the commas are there and there are linebreaks.

Any suggestions please?

thanks
bb

Importing Data Into OpenOffice.org
To exchange data in a text format use the OpenOffice.org Calc import/export filter.
1.Export the desired data from the source database in a text format. The CSV text format is highly recommended since it separates data fields by using commas and records by inserting line breaks.
2.Open the data with the "Text CSV" file filter. Select this file filter in the Open dialog in the Files of type list box. Select the file and click Open.
3.You will see the Import text files dialog. Here you can decide which data to include from the text document.
Once the data is in a OpenOffice.org Calc spreadsheet, you can edit it as you want. You have two ways of saving the data in a OpenOffice.org data source:
Save the current OpenOffice.org Calc spreadsheet in dBase format in the folder of a dBase database. To do this, choose File - Save As, then select the File Type "dBase" and the folder of the dBase database.
Check the data range in the OpenOffice.org Calc spreadsheet and drag the area into a table container in the data source view. The table container is the area on the left of the database explorer that is designated "Tables" (see diagram). An AutoPilot is started automatically.

although you didn't quite answer my question, you did provide me with an alternative solution. Thanks
