OpenOffice and db problems

Have tried every version of OpenOffice up to current with same problem: start a db database and it functions ok, until I try to enter data into the memo field. Won't let me. It imports all the previous records and on those shows everything in the memo field. Tried it with SuSE, MDK, Slack (even WIN2000) - same result. When I do the same thing with StarOffice 5.2 it works fine. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

if you tried with all those systems it may be a bug and should be reported.
