Is there a way to use kwrite or a text editor to open up text files?, cuz everytime i open up a text file konquerer opens up then to modify the file i have to open it up again with a text editor. thanks

Should be the same in RH8 as in RH9 (minor KDE version difference).
From Konqueror ->
Click on a text file with the right mouse button ->
Select "Open with" ->
Select the option at the bottom (I'm using the Dutch version, so I don't know the English name for this option) ->
Select something like 'remember binding for filetype.'
