Has anybody had any problems opening MS Word files with KOffice?

Suse 9.2 KDE 3.3.2 KWord 1.3.5

I tried to open a MS Doc file (on a FAT32 drive) this morning and it came up with the obvious but not very helpful error message 'Could not open'. Tried a few different MS Doc files but all gave the same error message. Tried the files with OOO and they open fine. It doesn't seem a general KOffice problem as MS produced spreadsheets and presentations load fine.

Next I tried uninstalling KOfice and WV2 and re-installing. Same problem. As a final attempt I unistalled KOffice and re-installed the version on the Suse 9.2 DVD. Still no joy.

I think it might be something perhaps to do with a system update file as I installed KOffice on my spare P/C (with Suse 9.2 KDE 3.3 - not updated) and it worked fine reading from DOC files.

Can anyone suggest what I should try next?

OpenOfice (OOO) works fine but so does KOffice usually? Hence my question.

i got errors with word docs
so i have stopped using koffice

i prefer openoffice and the formating of docs on openoffice is nice and same if u open them in MS word

Just incase anyone comes across this post and is suffering from the same problem - the fix is to lock the version of libgsf so it isn't updated to the version available as part of the kde update to 3.3.2. The version under kde 3.3.0 works fine.
