opening an application in ubuntu...?
when i download a program, i configure make and install the programm the icon for the application appears but if i click on it it wont open or run if i search for the file and i click on it that way i get an error message saying :There is no installed viewer capable of displaying the document. what do i need to fix this. thanks <3 i have Synaptic Package Manager installed on my laptop but i cant find it anywhere when i search for it, can some one please help me i think i'd like that<33

Assuming that you did all the other steps correctly, you probably just need to set the permissions to make the file executable.
In a terminal--in the directory where the file is: Code:
ls -l filename ##to show you the current permissions |

Synaptic should be under System->Administration in the Ubuntu menu. It might be called just "Package Manager" or something.

Try using terminal to open app! (view name of command in icon's properties tab) using dpkg to query! |
