OpenGL problem in Slackware 10

I have a Slackware 10 box(and a Radeon 7000 video card) and I recently installed Metisse. After I started it I discovered it worked very slow so I thought it might be OpenGL's fault. How could I check I have OpenGL working and if it is not working how could I activate it(I need 3D acceleration).
Thanks!

I managed to fix the problem: I modified the xorg.conf with Load "dri".
