"open with" mplayer can't find file

I am running Mandriva LE2005 and use nautilus with KDE. When I right click on a video and choose open with mplayer, it opens and errors with "unable to open url: file://path/to/file. But, if I open the file from mplayer or start the file command line it finds it fine. Don't have the problem with xine or totem.

Any thoughts?

I think the problem is within nautilus not mplayer... When you write click and choose open try typing the exact location of the file, perhaps it's adding or removing something from the path...

Yes, after it fails to open the file, mplayer is left on screen with its familiar blue window. I can then right click in the mplayer video window and choose: open, play file, and select it from the list there. It works fine. I' m not sure we are talking about the same thing. the problem occures when I right click on the video file icon (.avi or .mpeg file) in nautilus. There, an "open with mplayer" is an item in the list. When I select that item it fails to open and tells me it can't find the file. It displays the full path to the file in the error message and it's the correct path. I don't think the error message is the real reason why its not working.

Also in the list on right click is "open with Totem" and "open with xine". If I select either of those the video file opens fine. if I double click on the video file it opens in totem by default.

Its one of those things I can "learn to live with", but if its a simple fix I'll fix it.

Thanks for the response.
