Open Source: Version Control / Change Management

Is (are) there any Open Source Version Control or Change Management applications that you would recommend and why?

Development and Production would be seperate servers.

I am browsing SourceForge but would like to get some additional input.

thanks.

Do you just mean source code management software? Then Git is the best:

http://git-scm.com/

You can have as many development branches as you want, and you can clone the repository to as many machines as you want.

Steve, Coder, thanks for your replies.

I am looking for a solution to manage change request and a Source Management (Software Change Management) application that would provide approval to promote into production; my assumption is that this would all be one product. I am also interested in a Build Release Management application that would allow us to create test and demo environments as well as check-in/check-out feature.

What you have provided wiil be very helpful for me!
