Open Source Counterpart to Adobe Acrobat Distiller?

Is there an open source counterpart to Adobe Acrobat Distiller where I can use any application that can print and instead of printing to a device (i.e., printer), print to a PDF file?

print to postscript file then use PS2PDF utility from ghostscript..

Someone has probably put together an automated approach using these utilities.
