I'm looking for a tool to create web-based OLAP views --something like Microsoft BI Portal or Oracle Discoverer. Something that can create web-based pivot tables, pie charts, and such, while taking the data from OLAP cubes.
Is there any open source software for such purpose? And what would you suggest?
Also, what is the best open source OLAP server out there? (the open source equivalent to Microsoft Analysis Service) How about postgreSQL? Does it come with 'cube server' feature like Microsoft Analysis Service to Microsoft SQL?
OLAP isn't my thing, but I do know that PostgreSQL is intentionally "just" a database engine, and additional functionality is not tied to it the way that MS bundle other stuff with SQL Server.
I'd suggest looking around the Java world for this kind of business-related OSS products, e.g. the BIRT (Business Intelligence Reporting Tools) project of Eclipse, the JBoss range of applications, and Jasper Reports all use Java, but are not tied to a particular database or OS.

I see, thanks. Are BIRT and Jasper Reports open-source?
You can create it through OLAP MODELKIT 1.6, it can create web based pivot tables, charts etc. taking data from olap cubes.
Mondrian OLAP server is the open source software that would help you out in this regard.i would suggest you here is you should try this. For more information you can visit web-based OLAP . Frankly speaking speaking i am not familiar with SQL server,
therefore i would suggest you to stick with oracle, in case still you find any difficulty, write here i am here to solve it out.
