Open office won't open

Open office recently wouldn't open. It would get to the open office box in the middle of the screen and then close. I installed the new version and now it still does the same thing. Any ideas.
Thanks

In a terminal, try oowriter
Sure it isnt just opening the main window on another desktop or something after the splashscreen goes?

OpenOffice is a VERY memory hungry program. How much RAM do you have? I used to have Redhat 8 with 64M and it took about 3 mins to open. Try running "top" while you start it. Also check your processes to make sure it isn't partially open in the background.

gkrellm says I have about 250 mb of memory free but I will try oowriter

Edit
I tried oowriter and it pauses for a second and gives me another prompt

Edit (2)
I went back to my first gui and I have 12 open offices running, it must take a long time to load.

Thanks

I think that OO1.0.3 is supposed to be a bit faster - i haven't tried it yet - I think they are still getting rid of all the Sun crap.

some config could be messed up.
you could delete, or rename your .openoffice
directory in your home dir, and see if that fixes things.
