Question open office root user problem

installed open office to my mandraked distro. tried finding star office but the beta version i downloaded said it was past its expiration date. ,. it seems the only way I can get star office now is to buy it so I am trying open office instead , installed program and I am having problem saving spreadsheet or wordprocessor documents. It wants to save them to /root and it says I don't have permission for that. I logged out went to root open the office program and changed the path to save documents to /home /myname/ logged out and went back to my usr acct; but when I try to save a file it gives me the same response. what do I do to change the location of where my documents will be saved . thank for the help

Just a thought.

You want to install OO as root and run OO as user, correct? You just have to log in as user, open terminal,
su
mkdir /usr/local/oo
chown $userid$ /usr/local/oo ($userid$ is your username)
chgrp users /usr/local/oo
chmod 775 /usr/local/oo

Install oo there. If it doesn't save, then
Add yourself to users group
su
chmod -R 775 /usr/local/oo

IIRC, you supposed to run the "install" as root, then run "setup" as a user. There are installation instructions at the OpenOffice.org site.

Question root user

thanks for the response guys I am new to linux and am having problems with installation of things. I did get the program to work and to save my files as the user. I uninstalled it and reinstalled the rpm open office that came in the distro disk I downloaded from the internet. Thanks again.
