OOo: personal settings problem solution

Further to this ancient LQ thread, which was unsolved ...

If OOo generates the following error message, it was solved on OOo 3.2 by removing ~/.openoffice.org/3/.lock

"Either another instance of OpenOffice.org is accessing your personal settings or your personal settings are locked.
Simultaneous access can lead to inconsistencies in your personal settings. Before continuing, you should make sure user '<whatever>' closes OpenOffice.org on host '<whatever>'.
Do you really want to continue?
"

There were very few postings about the above message on the Infernet, probably because it is rare. In this case it happened because of copying ~/.openoffice.org from one machine to another while OOo was running.
