Hi there!
I hope this is the "correct" forum in which to post this question, as it COULD be construed as a HARDWARE question as well, I guess!
Anyways, I know that this question has been asked before, but I have still not seen ANT "definitive" answer to it!
I have a Hauppauge WinTV PVR 150 tv/capture card in my system running Slackware 13.37; I have been searching for a "tv" app. that will allow me to do the things that one would normally like to do with such an app. (ie, watch television, change channels, etc.). I have been pointed to several different packages, until finally I was pointed to to the TVTime app. at Slackbuilds.org (the version specifically for Slackware 13.37...).
The package built and installed without issue, but when I try to run the app, I am immediately confronted with the message:
(At the TOP of the TVTime app. window
" No Signal No video
source"
(and at the BOTTOM of the apps. window
"ivtv: Invalid argument
cannot open capture device /dev/video0"
Now, this same situation was reported by at LEAST one other LinuxQuestions user (I do not recall the users name at the moment), however, in that particular posting (somewhat dated, if I'm not mistaken), no specific answer to this question was posted (at least, not to the satisfaction of "solving" the problem...). So I'll ask the question now:
Does TVTime support the WinTV PVR 150 with the mpeg1/mpeg2 encoded output on /dev/video0? Moreover, do ANY of the "tv"-type apps. available for Linux support this type of encoded output format? Or am I not doing something correctly? When run from a command-line, the error that TVTime reports is:
"Card unable to allocate capture buffers"
(or something close to that; I can provide the exact output upon request!).
I ask this because: I KNOW that there is a "signal" on /dev/video0, becuase I can WATCH television through this device on no less than 3 of my multimedia apps. (namely, MPlayer, gnome-mplayer and VLC...).
For MPlayer and gnome-mplayer, I simply type the command:
"mplayer /dev/video0"
and I am immediately viewing the tv channel that my card is currently tuned to!!! This goes for gnome-mplayer as well! For VLC, I selected "PVR" as the "Capture Device", and voila! I'm watching the same television station!
So, IS there an app. that is currently supporting the type of encoded output that the WinTV PVR 150 provides? Somebody HAS to have an answer to this long-standing question by now!

Thanks for any response in advance...
