Does anyone know if there is a way to watch these videos on Linux using Firefox 3.01

wine? it looks like it's some kind of m$n/vista-centric stuff (silverlight? wth is that?). I could be wrong, but I doubt it's going to work on native linux without some sort of emulation or virtualization.

It didn't work at all in Safari on my wife's MacBook Pro. And yes, it meets their minimum requirements.

It worked in Firefox on Mac, but it won't stream without silverlight. This was my first experience with silverlight and it's *way* more hype than reality. The "HD" is a little bigger than your typical youtube frame, so the "HD" resolution is completely useless. That is, unless you enjoy looking at teeeny tiny images.

On Wine, Firefox 3.0 would crash after clicking a url on the nbcolypics homepage. Firefox 2.x works good in wine. Still need silverlight... I'm working on the install now.

As an FYI, I'm running Debian Lenny/Sid/Experimental mix.

This is really, really irksome.

www.nbcolympics.com doesn't work at all with firefox 3 on Windows or Linux. And it won't work in Firefox 2.x because it *demands* you install silverlight in order to view anything. This URL may help get something going. http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/

On Windows/IE7, you have the *option* of installing silverlight, but choosing not to install silverlight puts you on a broken page where, in theory, there would be some video.

Yup, that's wonderful, support M$ and their open technology.

We're not the only ones who think this is wrong.

I hope Adobe and M$ annihilate each other and do the world a favor.

And now Obama wants you to install Silverlight too!

Also, don't forget that some XP computers were never able to be upgraded to SP2... they always error'd out and Microsoft tech support was of no help. That's our only XP machine in the house :)

Hey! There are a few good guys at Adobe. They'd better hurry up and release the full spec for SWF again though; they decided to make it secret at some point (crippling development of free viewers) and that's about the time MS came up with silverblight. Personally I think Adobe should make the viewer Open Source (better still, GPLv2 or v3) - I'm sure there are dozens of people itching to port and improve the Flash player. With a single player becoming ubiquitous on most platforms, silverblight won't have a snowball's chance in hell. That way Adobe can concentrate more on improving their Flash editing software.

The Olympics is M$'s current big chance to push silverblight on the world. Expect to see more web content available on sliverblight only. I'm waiting for Miguel de Icaza to show up somewhere plugging sliverblight - I'll just laugh at him again of course. Also expect to see more websites telling you to install silverblight just to see the website (those Flash websites are annoying enough - I make sure to ban them from my list of browsable sites).

You're right Adobe is far less dangerous than M$, I mean Adobe actually bothers to make a Linux flash player, you think M$ will ever even consider making anything for Linux, no way in hell, over Bill Gates' and Ballmers' dead bodies, and not even then.

No, it's (MS)NBC again, though I agree that the DNC should've said or done something about it.
