OLD X wm.

A long time ago (I'll say 1990 - might have been 91) when using X on SunOS there was a lovely highly configurable window manager. The main thing I remember about this was being able to have title bar on any of the four sides of the window, with icons/buttons anywhere on the title (or even title on the bottom/icons on the right etc).

Since returning to X after well over decade I can't seem to find this WM despite searching everywhere I can think of (there's no way I can remember the name after all this time). Is there somewhere else I should be looking? Does anyone know of the WM that I'm referring to? The only thing I've seen that's even close was flwm (and it's derivatives) which put the title on the left. Could it be that I can't find this because it was a proprietay Sun product rather than open source?

I can't seem to find other old X programs either. I'm sure there was a good virtual desktop manager back then and an 'appbar/'startbar' but I can't find those either. Is there a good repository of old X software that I can look through? This stuff dates from the days when 'xclock' was standard equipment for the desktop, I can find that but not the mystery wm...

Thanks for any help

R.

FVWM2 can do that, and it's been around long enough..

Thanks - I've been looking into it closely for the last few days.

I think the WM I saw must have been fvwm or an early version (we're talking 1990 - various pages seemed to hint at fvwm appearing around 1993). Although I still can't find the GUI configuration tool so I assume that was proprietary.

Anyway - thanks for the help. FVWM will certainly suit my needs when I can work out how to program the thing!
