ok 2 things, dealing with the same problem

ok, so two programs won't automatically load, two different problems of the same nature... kinda.

ok so mysql will not load.

its in the process list as automatically loading.

if i go to /etc/rc.d/rc?.d/ its there begenning with S. i even talked to MySQL support, and they looked at the startup script, and they are confused they said everything looks fine.

any ideas?

I'm using Fedora Core 4, with MySQL 4.0.26
when first installed it automatically loaded, then it just stopped.

ok

Problem 2

when i try and add Xvnc to the startup, i get a pop-up that has no text except for a button that says Ok, and above it is a warning icon.
when i click ok, it doesn't add it... i even tried to add the script vncserver as a process... .. please help.
i'm totally confused.

Does the startup script look OK (path, flags, etc.)? Can you start MySQL afterward? Do you get any log messages (e.g., in /var/log/messages)?

I added some debug info into the script. and everything is loading and looks fine. it really doesn't make any sense. but it won't load if i type in /etc/init.d/mysql start

but it displays all the right debug info, like its starting.

so everytime the machine reboots i have to go and type /sbin/mysqld -u root -p

and it works great. even the mysql people were/are confused. and i really can't rpm -e it because it would take way too long. to setup everything, we just don't have the time.

no log messages except the ones i put there debuging to /var/log/mysqld_debug_log

when fedora is starting up it doesn't even say Starting mysqld........[ok] so i don't know whats going on... i'm totally confused. i guess its not that important as the machine doesn't go down often... its just irritating, because it doesn't make any sense.
i can SSH in if i have to and start it, and start Xvnc...
Thanks for the reply :)
