Office Office 2.0 final when?

Surprisingly enough, with all the information available on the openoffice.org website, I can't find even a tentative release date for the final Open Office 2.0. When is it? Has anyone heard anything?

I'm considering it for my church for use on their Windows 98 machines as an interim *cough* step to migrate them to Linux. Baby steps.....

As with most open-source software, it will be released when all the desired features are implemented all all significant known bugs are ironed out.

Linux Format Magazine [Future Publishing UK] (April) said that every major distro released after May would ship with OOo 2.0, so I wouldn't expect it to be that long away. Then again, 2.0 has been in Beta for over a year now.

I guess it'll probably be a few more months yet. But I'd recommend at least looking at the latest development snapshot; it might be more stable than equivalent commercial products by now.

Try one of the snapshots I am using 1.9.109 and it looks and runs just fine.

Funny you should mention that. I run a Pentium 4 at work and the preview of OpenOffice runs like a dog when opening up. Likewise, MS Word & Excel 2003 open in about 2 seconds. I didn't know if it was development code slowing it down, or if that is what I should expect. So imagine the church computers would be worse. I have not tried OO 1.14 at all on them.

Most of them are an Intel PII or AMD between 300-600Mhz. They do all have 128 or 192Mb RAM.
