Angry of course I have loadable modules enabled!

This has been annoying me now. I built kernel 2.6.4 and everything 'appears' to work fine.

Then I try building some modules and I get an error which tells me that i have not enabled 'loadable module support' in my kernel but I am quite sure that I have done that though i have not enabled support to 'unload' modules.

any clues?
