ODBC connection to MySQL

I have RedHat 8.0 running on my PC, and have installed all packages, including MySQL, MyODBC and UnixODBC, but when I try to connect to the 'test' database using ODBC, I get an error.
I use the following syntax, logged in as root:
[bash]# isql MySQL-test test <enter>
And I get:
[SQLerror] could not SQLconnect.

Does anyone know how I can use ODBC to connect to MySQL, under RedHat 8.0?

I have a similar problem - mySQL on Redhat 8, ODBC on Win 2K. The error msg is "Lost connection to mySQL server during query" when I push the test button in ODBC configuration. I'm pretty sure it sees the server, because when I put in a bogus server name I get a different "server not found" error. Any thoughts ?

I have the same problem as darius, except it happens with FreeBSD. Trying to connect via OpenOffice I get the same message. Since I can connect to MySQL as a regular user with a password I suspect that MySQL must be configured to have it accessed without a password. I'm working in finding out how anybody can connect to the MySQL server without having to issue a password and then I"ll let you know my result. Good luck.
