Octave and SuSE 8.1?

Has anyone succeeded in installing any version of Octave on SuSE 8.1? It used to be included with the distribution as recently as 8.0, but is absent in 8.1. I tried building it from source and failed. Also tried installing a RH7.3 package (which usually works) and failed. It told me it had unresolved references to "info" and the blas libraries, both of which are in fact present. I'm stumped.
