Obtain Free Linux Version

Hi,

I wish to download a free version of Linux x86 (Debian, Mandriva, Red Hat or Ubuntu) so that I can install it and learn linux. The reason why I have mention the above versions is that I need to Install Oracle 10G on it to learn Oracle on Linux x86.

Can someone please post me the webiste url/s that I can download a free version of linux to learn?

Looks like I will have to settle for Mandriva so that I can install Oracle 10G on it.

Can you confirm with me that the following link is the correct one for me to download? Di I need to download ISO3 only? for x86?

The current version seems to be 11, why not start there?

I would install a Virtual machine such as VMplayer 3 and download a premade linux virtual machine that already has oracle in it maybe. See the virtual appliances at vmware's site.

Pretty sure there are plenty of distro's that would support an oracle install too. My guess is you could install it to almost any of the top 30 at www.distrowatch.com

See also solaris and other OS's if you are interested.

Maybe Mandriva, maybe Oracle----regardless:

distrowatch will tell you definitively the latest version of various distros. (Mandriva is on version "2010")

If you have a requirement to learn RHEL + Oracle, you should really consider using CentOS. CentOS is basically RedHat with the trademarking removed, so what holds for RedHat will hold for the equivalent version of CentOS and vice versa.

linuxgoose, http://www.oracle.com/database/product_editions.html for the latest versions.

Oracle has bought Sun which owned virtualbox so now oracle is promoting virtualized everything. Might look at there VM offerings for ideas on an Oracle unbreakable linux VM with Oracle installed.
