Nvidia tv-out won't work correctly.

Can someone help setting up my tv-out???
The graphic card is a nvidia geforce 2 mmx. Distro is suse 9.0. I am running nvtv, but the program can't turn tv on without messing up my monitor display.
I found out that the only way to produce a minimally decent tv output is to set the monitor display to 800x600 (but actually I use 1280x1024 on my 17' monitor) and then turning on the tv-out. But the result is yet to be improved. The tv image is a bit distorted.
Is it necessary to match the resolutions both in the monitor and in the tv? why can't nvtv offer 1024 or 1280 resolutions? The highest are 800x600 or 756x450.

the documentations do not cover these topics.

Thanks!
