Nvidia Driver Problem with GeForce 440 Go

I'm working on a friends computer, setting up slackware for him, and I'm having a problem with the video drivers. I downloaded the lastest 1.0-7167, when I start up Xorg, The screen is messed up and I can't see anything, I tried looking at the xorg.0.log file, and I couldn't do much. here's the important parts of xorg.log

Anyone know how I could fix this?

HP Pavilion zv5000 series, Slackware 10, kernel 2.6.10, x11r6.8.2

tdonoughue 03-19-2005 09:49 PM

I am going out on a limb here; I don't run slackware. I have Suse.

But, we had an issue with the NVidia drivers not working with a recent kernel upgrade. I do not recall the kernel version numbers (are they the same between Suse & slackware? I don't know). End result was two important points:
1) you could get the updated kernel to work if you recompiled the driver from the source (which is undertaken for you automagically by the installation routine); and
2) there is now out a more updated kernel which does not have the issue.

So, in case you are having a similar problem I would: a) check for a kernel update and b) if there is none, or the problem persists, use the NVidia utility to reinstall/recompile.

Then again, none of that may be helpful to you...

I've got 2.11.4, I'll try to get him 2.11.5, but I don't know how much of a difference that would make. I tried installing the drivers again, and I also tried installing older drivers (which failed) I'm using the driver that came with X11R6 8.2

Now there's a problem when you type glxinfo, none of the information come ups, and it tells me it can't get some pallet or something, I'm not sure what it is right now, I don't have the computer at the current moment. I'll get it as soon as I can.
