I'm using SuSE 9.1 pro with 2.6.7 kernel compiled by me and i get this error trying to install the nvidia drivers.

    ke the installer to attempt to download a kernel interface for your kernel f
    rom the NVIDIA ftp site (ftp://download.nvidia.com)? (Answer: No)
    -> No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel; this means
    that the installer will need to compile a new kernel interface.
    -> Kernel source path: '/usr/src/linux'
    -> Performing cc_version_check with CC="cc".
    ERROR: Unable to determine the NVIDIA kernel module filename.
    ERROR: Installation has failed. Please see the file

In linux you have to read between the lines of the error. Your problem is pretty simple. You just need to make a symbolic link to the directory where your kernel source code is hiding.

Do you know where place the kernel source code?

After you know, just make a symbolic link. The command is "ln". You man if you do not know how to make a symbolic link.

what Electro means is ........since most people change kernels like they change their clothes.............
the /usr/src/ directory can have 3,4 different kernels.............but each
one is named by it's version #...........linux-2.24 or linux-2.64
so if yours is named by its version just symlink it.............
linux > linux-2.67

I know that there is a number of diferrent kernels in /usr/src/. I have 2 in in there and the 2.6.7 is in /usr/src/linux. But I still get that error trying to install the nvidia drivers.

I looked in the nVidia's readme files. This is what it said

Quote:
sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-xxxx-pkg1.run --kernel-name='KERNEL_NAME'

Where 'KERNEL_NAME' is what `uname -r` would report if the target
kernel were running.
Check in the readme for more options.
