Nvidia driver for NVIDIA NVS 295: display blinking black

Many people seem to have a similar problem under different circumstances. I have not found a suitable solution

Hardware:
2 Intel Xeon E5520 quad core processors
256 MB Nvidia Quadro NVS295 graphics card
12 Gb DDR3 ECC-RDIM memory
4 X 1 TB hard drives running RAID 10
Single display is Acer AL2216W

Running 64 bit Centos 5.3
Nvidia driver installed is NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-190.42-pkg2.run

The display will randomly blink black for one to five seconds and then return to normal. The frequency of the blinking is also random although it seems to be more frequent if I am busy working (no surprise there).

I cannot set the display to its highest resolution using "System, administration, display, display settings" although the display type may be selected as an option.
The NVIDIA server settings are also no help.

my xorg.conf file is below

# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig
# nvidia-xconfig: version 1.0 (buildmeister@builder58) Tue Oct 20 21:25:04 PDT 2009

Nothing to loose...

The NVS variant of the Nvidia 295 chip is not listed as supported on the Nvidia driver site.

Just on the odd chance, download a copy of one of the linuxs with a built-in Nvidia driver, PCLinuxOS or Mint, and see if one of them will boot and run the driver without your fault.

It is no help now, but if you wait, Nvidia will probably support the NVS in the future. Does the card run with the "nv" module?

looking at your xorg you are not loading the nvidia driver.
look at mine. You will have to do as root nvidia-xconfig
