NVidia driver causing crashes?
 

I'm running SuSE 9.1 with the proprietary NVidia driver for my GForce4 MX card. Recently I had a system freeze and found this in my kernel log right after the crash:

Is there a way around this? I seem to have had some compatability problems with the NVidia card in the past, but I was under the impression that they were caused by an MTRR error which I fixed. Because the crashes still kept up I installed the proprietary driver. The IPv6 line is there because I recall seeing that line in the kernel log before a past crash.

with the new kernal there is a conflict with something being loaded i forget what, but i get those same warnings. They mean nothing unless you have that module loaded somewhere which will cause those lockups. I suggest installing the newest driver for your system and see if it tells you what the module is. After that good luck because I don't have the knowledge to disable it if that is indeed the case.

Try to install newest drivers for GeForce. I think 1.0-6111 is the latest version. Maybe with it it'll be better. Also be sure you have changed appropriate settings in xorg.conf file. Make sure you have nVidia Riva support disabled in your kernel config file. I have the same card and am having no problems (my kernel version: 2.6.8.1). Hope i've helped you!

Is the only way to disable riva is to recompile the kernel? I'm running into the same problem. I tried to install the new drivers on my RHEL v3 machine yesterday, went and reconfigured my X11 Config file and it crashed at start up. When I installed the driver it did say to disable rivafb before start up. Can you just unload the module from further start ups or do you have to go through all of that hassel?
