NVIDIA driver and IRQ mapping/sharing, again

Hi all,

I'm trying to use a linux system with 4.4 series kernel (slackware-current) and NVIDIA 340.96 driver. (And tried before with 4.1 kernel system).

I'm having that infamously classic 'X won't start' situation', with nvidia driver referring in Xorg.0.log to the 'Chapter 8' on 'Common problems'. Seems like the problem is (historically) the IRQ sharing involving something else than NVIDIA hardware.

Nothing in the NVIDIA's 'Chapter 8' helped me (many reboots = 4 kernel loading options * 2 variants of MSI * tweaking IRQ related BIOS options).

The very same combination of hardware works fine (right now) with system based on 3.10 series kernel (slackware 14.1) and NVIDIA 304.125 driver.

The only visible difference betwen kernel series w/r to IRQs is the 4.4 kernel putting the SATA on the same IRQ number as NVIDIA graphics adapter, which 3.10 kernel does not do. But I can't enforce any policy in that regard, can I?

I'm really out of clues now. Any advice, please?

Never mind, I've put together a stopgap solution of sorts, namely, I've managed to install 304.131 NVIDIA driver on that system. Not for the faint of heart (http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...og.php?b=36888) and I'm not yet sure it's 'really safe'.

However, seems it's a problem created on NVIDIA side, after all. Will have to contact the developers there.

As it's not the real solution to the question posted, I'm NOT yet marking this as solved.
