Nvidia and kernel 2.6.10 on FC2

Hello all,

First : The Machine : -

I have a FC2 installed on my box ( AMD Athlon 1800Xp + Asus A7N8VM Mobo which comes along with an integrated NVIDIA GeForce 440 MX graphics processor and the NVIDIA Nforce based chipset ). Although the default kernel 2.6.5-i686 was working decently, i managed to upgrade to the latest 2.6.10 stable version.

Second : The Problem :-

There are two problems here,

1. Prior to the new 2.6.10 kernel i had the Nvidia 6111 drivers humming along smoothly on the old 2.6.5 kernel with 3D accelaration enabled giving upto 4555 fps. Pretty good i must say.

But i have tried and tried every trick in the books, forums, patches and kernel recompilations and driver recompilations and even patched repackaged drivers from minion.de --- alas ! everytime and every single attempt gives me the same problem.

After installing from init level 3 i jump to init 5 and the X server loads up excellently complete with the Nvidia logo and everything responds beautifully -- everything you name it -- glxgears, glxinfo, lsmod lists "nvidia" everything is just perfectly stable till............ i do a reboot !

After the reboot all hell breaks loose.......... i constantly get the blank screen and even the virtual terminals do not work. All i can do is a hard reboot and its been that way for the past one week now.

Have tried everything that i could have tried but still the same error -- a beautiful blank black screen !!

NOTE : some forums are suggesting to load the Nvidia driver as a "udev" device but although i know my kernel supports udev i am not able to find the /etc/udev folder in my FC2 installation.

2. The second problem is pretty interesting but its not a very major one so i will prefer to sidetrack it for later analysis. It concerns the Nforce driver and the OSS module --- but thats for later -- i need help now, cause i am tierd of doing hard reboots.

Help me please - i dont want to do hard reboots everytime.

remember its a FC2 with KDE 3.3 running a custom 2.6.10 stable kernel patched against Con kolivas patches for enahancing dektop performance.

All the help will be appreciated - Thank you in advance for the good souls thinking to help me.[B]
