ntfsfix question

I have been writing files to an ntfs drive (yes, I know the danger) and I run ntfsfix after each write. Often, I get a mount error the first time I run ntfsfix - $Mounting drive - Failed and then seems to proceed normally. Running ntfsfix again goes with no error at all. Does anyone know why this happens? Should I run ntfsfix twice all the time?
