NTFS write

I installed NTFS support to FC3. It can read, but won't let me write. I need to delete some files from my Win partition. How can I enable this?

NTFS write support is VERY DANGEROUS. Therefore it has not been implemented in the kernel yet. You can use captive for NTFS write support though.

If u want to just delete files from NTFS partition try FreeBSD. It fully support NTFS partitions (read/write).
Or u may try FreeSBIE - FreeBSD Live CD
Home Page: http://www.freesbie.org/

btw. isnt it strange that FreeBSD support it from a long time ago and Linux still havent NTFS support ?

FreeBSD doesn't support NTFS write either

If it did, i would be a very very happy person

eh, here i go advocating windows software....... oh well.

go on google and look up BartPE. It will let you build a windows XP live cd, very similar to the the good ol knoppix disks we have grown to love ;)

Since it actually runs a modified version of XP off the cd, its perfect for accessing your ntfs system without booting to the hard drive to deleate a virus or whatever it is your trying to do, and its much safer than anything your gonna do under linux writing to ntfs.

This looks like a good thing to have around. I'll try it asap. My laptop is still hosed! This one file keeps regenerating several viruses on boot. I will be stoked if I can remove it. I'll keep you informed.

If worst comes to worst and there are damaged system files, at least you can backup all your data before a format... just make sure you scan everything before putting it back in place :)

Yes it is implemented. The last time I recompiled my kernel I saw a enable NTFS writing support option. I did not enable it, but it was there! I think that just enabling this option will do it, thought it may break your NTFS partition ^^
