ntfs-3g critical bugfix May 6, 2008 - how to obtain (solved)

ntfs-3g reported a bug that can corrupt your file system, with a fix on May 6.

My question: must this be built into the kernel, or is it possible to patch with an apt-get or modprobe?

How can you tell which version of ntfs-3g your distro is using?

I just downloaded the FUSE source code, compiled and installed it. Then I downloaded the new ntfs-3g, compiled and installed it. You only need your kernel source code.

If your ntfs-3g came included with your distribution, then you just have to wait until they package it.

to find out your version:

mount.ntfs-3g --help

I'm puzzled. The response to this command for a year-old version of Puppy Linux is "ntfs-3g 1.417", but the most recent release is 1.2531, released on May 29, 2008, according to the release history on the ntfs-3g web site.

Correction: That's OK, they just use an unconventional sequence of version numbers.
