Noob question : KDE or GNOME?

I like Gnome for aesthetic purposes only. In your opinion, which one of the two is more effective?

I've been using KDE with SuSE 9.1 for quite a long time, but I went for Gnome when I installed SuSE 10. However, I've found it more difficult to use, even though it does look a bit more stylish, so I think I'm going to go back and install KDE on SuSE 10

As a desktop environmetn, I rate KDE highly.

Since I don't actually *like* DEs, however, I dislike both KDE and Gnome and have neither installed at present

Actually, this is almost a religious discussion. I personally use KDE predominantly, only because of what has been called the 'baby duck' syndrome (the first living thing a newly hatched baby duck sees is, as far as the duck is concerned, mother.
So I used kde first, so I still use it.
You can get another spirited discussion with a question like 'vi or emacs'!
In the beginning, there were genuine technical arguments as far as which was 'better'. Now, each development team freely incorporates the good things the other does.

As far as which to install, install both. That way, if a program is written using gnome or kde shared libraries you can still use the program. As to which to use, whichever you like. They are both nice, they both have quirks. I happen to be used to the KDE quirks, that's all.
