no valid devices were found on which to create new filesystem
hi,
i'm trying to install Linux 2.1 redhat advance server but when it comes to Partitioning it gives an error "an error occured no valid devices were found on which to create new filesystem" could it be because of SCSI disks I have Seagate ST336607LW X 3 hard disk drives. Please Advise. Regards Mehdi Hassan |
Yes, that's a possibility.
When you boot from the cdrom it'll surely give you an option to start Linux with advanced option, which might have an option for scsi drives. Most likely it'll say something like "press F2 for advanced boot options". |
Hi,
So What should I do? |
hi,
there is expert mode but it dose not have anything specific to SCSI disks. Please advise what to do? Regards Mehdi Hassan |
I'm not sure about your specific distro, but I find quite strange that a server-specific distro doesn't support scsi. Try booting a "vanilla" kernel (pressing F1 at boot prompt will show help/info)

I Think I found the answer its because the onboard SCSI card on Intel SE7501BR2 is not certified with 2.1 AS. because i was unable to find anything in proc/scsi/scsi
