no task bar kde

I have read the solution fot the problem posed by someone who couldnt find a taskbar in gnome. I have KDE (4, I think). I can get to a text prompt, but then I dont know what to do. "Restart x" doesn't work. Meanwwhile, user can get to his e-mails but not to his files.

Access to files, just type 'dolphin' at the command prompt.

Restoring the configuration files to default :

cd /home/<user>/.kde4/share/
mv config/ config-back
( or just delete the directory config/ ).

Log out from KDE4, log in again, and a new default
set of configuration files will be created.

Make sure you have kicker installed. The "taskbar" in KDE is called kicker

Right, kicked is long dead and not installed at all.

Do you have a wallpaer on your desktop. If yes, right click on it and click "add taskbar". Then you can add some widgets in it. If not, press alt+f2 and type plasma-desktop or just plasma if you have 4.2 or less. But if so, upgrade to 4.4.
