No spellchecker in Thunderbird

I have received no help on the MozillaZine forum so I thought I would try here. I downloaded and installed a build of T'bird that was built for distros using Glibc 2.2.x. I like the app a lot but the spellchecker is not there. It had no dictionary, so I added that but still no spellchecker. Anyone have any ideas what I need to do to get it to work?

Do you have ispell, or aspell, or both installed? I am running T'bird right now and I have a spell checker icon in the message composition window, and it does work.

I run VL 4.0 and I have ispell loaded but not aspell. I can try to run that down and try to load it and see what happens. I've browsed thru the mozilla sites and the say T'bird uses myspell. I don't know if this is something that is integrated into T'bird or not. I googled on myspell and didn't come up with much so I don't know if it's an app that needs to be loaded or not.

Added aspell and it made no diff. It might be because of the glibc version. Spell check may need some libs that use the newer glibc. I'll just compose in Abiword and spellcheck there and copy and paste to T'bird for now.

Thanks
