No sounds in GAIM.

ok. Im running SuSE 9.1, and i built gaim 0.80 from source. Compiled nice, but i notice i have no sounds. I went and hit it to COMMAND in preferences, and set all the sounds to default. ok theoredically it should work....but every time gaim goes to make a sound, it says "Cannot execute child process" (permission denied). So i log in as root, and set all the sounds to Executeable...go back into normal user...and it no longer complains, i just get no sounds. Also, when i set it to use other sounds (like from trillian) nothing happens...it doesnt complain..i dont have any sound problems in any other programs....actually my soundcard works better under linux...

Im assuming im missing some sort of dependency when i built it? Thanks in advance guys.

like eSound or artdsp.

In fact on many soundcard Linux can't do "hardware mixing" so you can't play two sounds at a time.
You need a sound server to mix these sounds so only one is sent to the card.
